Technology in Language Learning Curriculum Development and Implementation
Abstract
One of the primary aims of education is to prepare young people for a successful and fulfilling life. Yet, although technology is woven tightly into every aspect of our lives, many educational institutions do not manage to reflect this in the educational programmes they offer. even at a time when many educational systems are undergoing key reforms which aim towards more relevant and contemporary learning, technology is sometimes assigned a marginal role in language learning curricula.
This talk will present the key areas which educational reforms need to address.
It will then focus on the role of technology and how it can contribute to the realisation of the education systems as they are envisioned by reformers, focussing especially on the area of language learning. A review of how technology has been integrated in current educational curricula will follow. Finally, the talk will continue with suggestions as regards the integration of technology in language learning curricula based on sound CALL pedagogy and will discuss the role of teacher education in the implementation of curricula.
