Keynote Speakers
Regine Hampel is Professor of Open and Distance Language Learning at the Open University. As Associate Dean (Research & Scholarship) she has overall responsibility for the research activity in the Faculty of Education and Language Studies. From 2010 to 2013 she was Director for Postgraduate Studies in the Centre for Research in Education and Educational Technologies (CREET). Previous to that she worked in the Department of Languages where she convened the Open Languages Research Group and was involved in the German programme offered by the Open University. This included designing and chairing a new level 2 German course that used an innovative blended approach. Regine’s research focuses on the use of technology in the context of language learning and teaching. She publishes regularly, disseminates her work at national and international conferences, and has been invited to speak at various events. From 2011 to 2013 she was Assistant Editor for System: An International Journal of Educational Technology and Applied Linguistics.
Sophie Ioannou-Georgiou holds an MA from the University of Reading (UK) and a PhD from the University of Nottingham. She has extensive experience as an EFL teacher and teacher trainer. She has taught EFL in a variety of contexts and has trained teachers in Cyprus, Serbia, India, Vietnam, Malaysia, the UK, Germany, the Czech Republic and Tunisia. She has authored and co-authored books and articles on assessment, technology, early language learning and CLIL. She has served on the TESOL CALL-IS committee and is a past Chair of IATEFL's Learning Technologies SIG. She is currently an inspector for English at the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture and the Chair of the Cyprus Teachers of English Association. Sophie is part of the team which authored the TESOL Technology standards (TESOL International Association).
Presenters
Maria Iosifina Avgousti is a teacher of English as a second or foreign language at Private Institutes and has also worked at the State Institutes of Further Education. She holds a BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Manchester, an MA in Applied Linguistics & TESOL from Newcastle University and she is currently writing her PhD thesis on the impact of telecollaboration with Web 2.0 tools and applications on the intercultural (communicative) competence of second or foreign language learners.
Elis Kakoulli Constantinou is an English Language Instructor at the Language Centre of the Cyprus University of Technology. She holds an MA in Applied Linguistics (University of Essex, UK). She is currently studying for a PhD in Curriculum and Materials Development through the Use of New Technologies at the Cyprus University of Technology.
Dr. Wendy Chambers is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the M.Ed. TESL program at the University of Alberta. Wendy has contributed to the TESOL field as an instructor, teacher trainer, researcher, and curriculum developer in Canada, Japan, China, and Kosovo. Her primary research interests focus on online communicative presence, CALL, and professional development for English language teachers.
Evelyn
Ezinwanne Mbah (Ph.D) is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics,
Igbo and Other Nigerian Languages, University of Nigeria , Nsukka, Enugu State
, Nigeria. She teaches the Phonetics and
Phonology of English and Nigerian languages. Other areas of her interest are translation
and Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL).
Dr. Modesta Ijeoma Iloene is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics, Igbo and other Nigerian languages, University of Nigeria, Her research interests include Morphology, Syntax and Applied linguistics with a stress in the Igbo language. She teaches and supervises in MA, and BA Igbo/Linguistics, Linguistics, EDU/Igbo Linguistics programmes.
Dr. Benadeth Ndidiamaka Ezekoye is a very proficient instructional material development technologist and has contributed as technical facilitator in a number of national and international organizations including the Tertiary Education Tax Fund (TETFund) and Hewlett-Packard (HP), Nigeria. Presently she works at Curriculum Development and Instructional Materials Centre (CUDIMAC), University of Nigeria, Nsukka as Instructional Technology Design/Implementation Expert. She is also a member of several national and international academies of technology.
EF Education First, Zurich
As an online teacher, DOS, teacher trainer and eventually a materials developer, David’s passion for CALL saw him introducing iPad based learning in EF Education First’s forty-three schools teaching seven languages. Nowadays he keeps in touch with the classroom by overseeing the academic managers of six language schools in the Asia-Pacific region (a killer commute!). A fan of EUROCALL for four years, David is currently completing an Educational Doctorate in TESOL at the University of Exeter.

Simone Torsani is Assistant Professor of Second Language Acquisition and Computer Science at the University of Genoa. He is member of the scientific board of the PhD in Digital Humanities (Genoa and Turin Universities). He has researched distance language education, social networking and language learning and CALL design and development.
Olga Georgiadou (BA in French Language and Philology, Maîtrise in Modern Languages, Professional MA 2 in Teaching French as a Foreign Language) is a French Instructor at the CUT Language Centre. Her research interests include Blended Learning, Formative Assessment, Computer Assisted Language Learning, Curriculum Development and Evaluation and Mobile Learning.
Holds Bachelor in Education, teaching English language.
Previously, worked as an EFL teacher.

Shona Whyte is associate professor (maître de conférences) at the Université Nice-Sophia Antipolis where she teaches EFL, translation and TEFL, and researches language teaching and learning with technologies.
She holds a PhD in linguistics from Indiana University Bloomington (1994) with a dissertation in second language acquisition on the discourse domain hypothesis (Selinker & Douglas), a variationist position on acquisition and use which can provide a theoretical underpinning for both LSP teaching and task-based learning more generally. Her current interests include the use of technologically mediated activities to promote unrehearsed second language communication, and exploiting social media networks for professional development.
These research interests also feed into her service activities as director of the Masters in Teaching English programme at the University of Nice and co-chair (with Euline Cutrim Schmid) of the EuroCALL Teacher Education special interest group.

Euline Cutrim Schmid is a professor of TEFL and Applied Linguistics at the University of Education Schwaebisch Gmuend in Germany. She teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate levels on a variety of topics including: CALL, applied linguistics, and qualitative research methodologies.
She holds a PhD in Linguistics (2005) and an M.A in Language Teaching (2002) from Lancaster University, UK. Her PhD dissertation focused on the use of interactive technologies in the foreign language classroom. Her current research interests are teacher education in CALL and Plurilingualism in the foreign language classroom. She is co-chair (with Shona Whyte) of the EuroCALL Teacher Education special interest group.

Stefan Schlaefli Fust works as a Spanish Teacher at the Language Centre of the University of Cyprus. He studied Romanistics (Master in Spanish linguistics and literature, modern French literature and Portuguese linguistics and literature) at the University of Zurich. Followed a Master in Aesthetics and Art Theory at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid with studies about Maeterlinck and the fin de siècle literature, political writing and translation (1995-1997).
He is the organizer of “Jornadas de formación para profesores de ELE en Chipre” (2009-now). Yearly conference for Spanish teachers, held at UCY.

Eleni Nikiforou (BA Aristotle University, MA Manchester University, PhD candidate Lancaster University) works as an English language instructor for the Language Centre at the University of Cyprus where she teaches English for Academic Purposes and English for Specific Purposes courses. Her research interests include Technology Enhanced Learning, Blended Learning, and Open Educational Resources.
